Our conception is designed primarily for canal travel, and secondarily for calm-seas motor-powered cruising. But for your true independence, our yacht can be transformed into a sailing trimaran.
Sailor's option
A 60 foot mainmast can be raised, and fitted with a 1000 square foot mainsail, and the outer hulls will each have a large rudder. Raising and securing the mast is a process that will take two persons about two hours.
When the mast is lowered, the yacht will still pass under the lowest canal bridges. As shown above, the yacht can cruise at a leisurely pace in a steady breeze.
To make the yacht a faster, more dedicated sailing vessel in oceanic conditions, the following options are also available:

  ·   Retractable daggerboards beneath each of the three hulls.

  ·   A 30 foot mizzen, with triangular sail, stepped just behind the flybridge.

  ·   A large genoa sail.

  ·   The front of the yacht can be secured in a reinforced aluminum skin like the rest of the yacht, and this skin will be a heavier guage overall. This will eliminate the front view windows, but will make the yacht secure in heavy seas.

  ·   The triangular sails can be made more effective by slitting them vertically at 5 foot intervals, as shown by the six lines on the sail illustrated above. This is a novel concept, we know, but when tacking or running at some acute angle to the prevailing wind, the sail acts like a wing. The most force is produced by the leading edges of any wing, therefore with six slits and seven leading edges, the total of the leading edges of the mainsail is increased from 54 feet to 247 feet, thereby multiplying its effectiveness.
When running before the wind, the sail partitions close up. The mechanisms involved in this are proprietary to RioMar Yachts.

None of these modifications will effect the yacht's proportions, nor limit its ability to pass through the French canals.
If you are an experienced sailor, and not satisfied with just cruising canals, then these modifications to our yacht will open the entire world to your exploring adventures!
